Registration Deadline: Student Composer Masterclasses at the Canadian Music Centre
Presented by the BCRMTA Student Composers’ Club in partnership with the Canadian Music Centre, this exciting event invites student composers to submit original works for a masterclass with award-winning Canadian composer Rodney Sharman. Six selected compositions will be featured in a live masterclass on Saturday, May 3, 2026 (2:00–5:00 PM) at the CMC in Vancouver, with written adjudications provided for non-selected submissions and a live Zoom broadcast for all applicants.

Join us for a full day of learning and inspiration with Christine Donkin, a renowned Canadian composer, educator, and clinician. Christine is widely respected for her engaging teaching style and her extensive catalogue of piano and choral works that are performed by students and professionals across Canada and internationally.
This special event will feature masterclasses for students of all levels, a teacher workshop, and a composition workshop designed to spark creativity and musical growth.

10:00–10:15 am – Teacher Workshop
10:15 am–12:00 pm – Student Masterclass (Junior & Intermediate)
2:15–3:15 pm – Composition Workshop
3:30–5:00 pm – Senior Masterclass

Teachers may enter 3–4 students (additional students may be accepted if space allows).
Fees
Teachers: $60 (includes lunch)
Students:
Junior (up to Level 3): $30
Intermediate (Levels 4–6): $35
Senior (Level 7 and higher): $40
Composition Workshop:
$20 if not registered in another workshop
Included for students registered in a masterclass

BCRMTA Spring Recital
The Chilliwack Branch of the BC Registered Music Teacher’s Association (BCRMTA) is hosting it’s annual spring recital on Friday, May 29th at the Chilliwack Cultural Center. The evening will feature students from a variety of musical disciplines including piano, violin, and others. All member teachers of the BCRMTA may submit up to 5 students to perform at this event.
The evening maybe divided up into 2 or 3 smaller recitals:
Adult Students
Beginner & Elementary Students
Intermediate & Advanced Students
*exact times depend on the number of students performing, details TBA.
Re-Registration Deadline for Current Students
June 1st is the re-registration deadline for current students. Current student wishing to re-enroll in piano lessons for the 2026/2027 school year must submit their registration before this date. Following June 1st, new piano students will be accepted if there is space.
Small Group Performance Classes
Small group performance classes will take the place of individual lessons the week before the recital to give students the opportunity to gain practice experience in an in-formal setting. Some performance classes will be scheduled online to allow distance-learning students the opportunity to perform.
Monday students will have both an individual lesson & a small group performance class this week to make up for lessons missed due to stat holidays earlier in the term.
Studio Recital
The studio recital will take place on Friday, June 5th at Sardis Community Church. The program will begin at 6:30 pm. Students are asked to arrive 10 minutes early. Following the recital there will be a reception in the lobby. Students are asked to bring a small plate of goodies to share.
Adult Student Music Evening
Adult students are asked to come out and support each other in their learning journey. Enjoy an evening of dessert, appetizers, and wine and plan to perform some of the pieces you have learned this term for the group.
Students are asked to bring a small treat to share with the group.
