What is the RCM?
The Royal Conservatory of Music is one of the largest and most respected music education institutions in the world, providing the definitive standard of excellence in curriculum design, assessment, performance training, teacher certification, and arts-based social programs. It offers a graduated system of exams in multiple disciplines (including piano and music theory).
Many of my students choose to take piano exams periodically through RCM in order to gauge their progress and to fine-tune their skills as musicians. In British Columbia, you can receive high school credit for taking certain RCM exams.
In order to become a Registered Music Teacher I had to complete my training through the RCM and obtain my ARCT Performers Diploma. The Associate of The Royal Conservatory (ARCT) diplomas for Performers and Teachers are the highest academic standings awarded by The Royal Conservatory.
